He is open minded to the possibility, and has seen what he thinks of as "mystical" moments.

Why is he/she in Chinatown?:
He recently quit the military (it can be done) while in training at DLI in Monterey, CA. He's hoping to get a job as a translator (he was learning Chinese - Mandarin), perhaps with a publishing firm

Disadvantage: can't seem to think of a tagline for innocent, so I'm going with "monumentally naive" for now.

Brief character history: John entered the military in an effort to do well by his girlfriend, whom he had impregnated and then married. The child never arrived, but John wasn't told that until he had been in for more than a year learning the chinese language. He was a little upset. He quickly quit and got a divorce, but not in that order. He was a week away from graduating trainging when he left, deciding to go down to San Fransisco due to it's heavy Chinese population, hoping to get a job. He's been there a week, staying with a friend by the name of Mason Hart, so far...
